Celebrating 200 years of Semperit and the launch of its new Hybrid Handrail in China
In 1996, the first Semperit factory producing handrails and employing 150 people commenced operations in Shanghai, China. Today, our site in Shanghai develops and manufactures handrails for every area of application, both indoor and outdoor, producing a yearly quantity of 2,500,000 meters.
In April 2024, Semperit celebrated its 200-year anniversary in Shanghai together with more than 100 customers and invitees. Amongst our guests, we welcomed Helmut Rakowitsch, the Austrian Consul General in Shanghai, and Christian Fuchssteiner, Head of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Shanghai, who delivered their birthday wishes to Semperit and underlined the positive cultural exchange between China and Austria.
Bernd Schlegl, General Manager of the Form Business Unit, looked back on the 200-year success story of Semperit and spoke about growing our business in Asia. Together with Christian Eckert, Head of Commercial HSA, and the team we took advantage of this festive setting to launch Semperit’s new hybrid handrail. This handrail combines the best of both worlds: the good bending performance of a rubber handrail with the smooth and shiny surface of plastic.
“Semperit and our business unit Form is strongly connected with Asia and in particular with Shanghai, where we have one of the biggest and most effective handrail production sites in the world. Semperit produces every third handrail in the world. We have always aimed to be a pioneer in new technology and innovation, while at the same time expanding our global footprint and product portfolio," said Bernd Schlegl.
